San Maurizio church
Located in the heart of Ponte in Valtellina, the church of San Maurizio, founded in the 12th century and expanded in 1347, is a fine example of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance styles.
On the façade there is a Venetian gothic marble portal with a frescoed lunette by Bernardino Luini depicting the Madonna with Child and St. Maurice. On the southern wall outside the portal with the blazon of the Quadrio family there is a large fresco of St. Christopher and a solar sundial.
The bell tower is built in Lombard Romanesque style. Inside the church there are works by the master carpenter Baldassarre Heger, namely: the richly inlaid pulpit and the organ. The wooden altarpiece by Giacomo del Maino is a must see.
