CAST

CAST, the “storytelling museum” set up inside the walls of Castello Masegra, is part of a broader project to promote alpine mountain culture and its territory of origin.
At the heart of this process of valorization are the 3 As of the mountains (ARRAMPICATA, ALPINISMO, AMBIENTE (CLIMBING, ALPINISM, ENVIRONMENT), pillars of a narrative hub in continuous evolution thanks to a varied assortment of initiatives inside and outside CAST.

From the beginning to the birth of the brand

The story of the valorization of Castello Masegra begins in 2013, when the castle was acquired by the Comune di Sondrio.

The guidelines for the repurposing project were quickly drawn, and a scientific committee was appointed, consisting of a project manager and experts in alpine culture and climbing history, environmental education, communication and design and museum didactics.

The project objectives were:

to make Castel Masegra an asset enjoyed by a more numerous and diverse public;
to develop tourist sector spin-offs and satellite activities in the city of Sondrio and its surroundings, while valorizing and respecting the natural habitat.

In 2017 the project was granted significant funding by Fondazione Cariplo, and in 2018 the CAST brand was officially rolled out, to identify the permanent exhibit inside the walls of Castello Masegra.

The CAstello delle STorie di Montagna: not just an exhibition space, but a genuine interactive pole, in which stories about climbing, alpine culture and nature can be enjoyed by visitors in a more vivid, experiential sense.
