Santa Casa
The Santa Casa Lauretana, a sanctuary dedicated to the nativity of the Virgin, was built between 1646 and 1790, in fulfillment of a vow made following the epidemic of plague of 1630.
The main façade, arranged in two tiers and divided by vertical elements in the northern European baroque style, is majestic. At the center, an elegant portal in green local stone. Inside, at the transept, stands the Santa Casa of Nazareth, built in the seventeen hundreds, a reproduction of the famous sacellum in the Basilica of Loreto. A simulacrum of the Black Madonna is kept inside the display case.
