Memorial Trail
The long, circular trail, which passes through the principal archeological sites and prehistoric rock inscriptions in the township of Sondrio, begins at the Museo Valtellinese di Storia e Arte [Valtellina Museum of History and Art].
The route winds along the Rhaetian slope, just above the limits of Sondrio, following ancient mule tracks and trails that still connect the hamlets of Maioni and SantAnna, all the way up to the plateau of Triangia and the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Sassella, then crosses the vineyards along the Via dei Terrazzamenti. The route passes some historical sites of notable interest, such as the fifteenth century church of S. Bartolomeo, the convent of San Lorenzo and the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Sassella.
Prehistoric rock incisions are visible near the church of S. Bartolomeo, on a glacial erratic in Triangia, anthropomorphic figures, open-armed or bearing weapons, can be seen in the hamlet of La Ganda, and there are more human figures a few hundred meters from the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Sassella.
